Celebrating the End of the War

"The first thing I remember about that is the first Guy Fawkes Night, which is the 5th of November. We were able to have a big bonfire. And that was the first time we had really seen anything, and then they started getting the lamp lights and everything going. And the first Christmas after the end of the war, my mom and dad took us into London-- which I mean it was a lot of it on the ground, because it was so bombed there-- but what little area they could decorate, they had Christmas lights out, and it was just something else, because I had never seen Christmas lights before-- not that I could remember."
