"A bus would come around and pick up these ladies in town and give them a drive to the cotton mill."

"After my dad’s father died from a measles epidemic, his large family of five siblings and his now single mother Frederica lost her farm during the Depression. During the war, Dad’s sisters went to work. The older sister married and her younger sisters and her mother moved in with her. Frederica went to work in the cotton mill. A bus came by the little town of Monroe every day picking up women, taking them to the cotton mill and then dropping them back home each night."
