Drafted into the Army
Dan Coker in Africa
"He never came home on leave."
Text
"My dad entered the war in President Roosevelt’s first peacetime military draft. The family appealed to the draft board because he was the breadwinner of a family he cared for since age ten, but he shipped out. Dan was gone for three years, and he never came home on leave, nor did he write to anyone, including Mother. Afraid he might not return, he wanted her to find someone else."
