"Lisowce labor camp-- this was a group of five agricultural villages where the Germans had a group of forced labor Jews working in agriculture, and so did my brother and I. It so happened that the commander of our camp, Mr. Frank, was a pretty decent man. We did not starve as badly as we did in the ghetto... Being in an open field you can always find something edible-- a carrot, or a potato, or whatever. The work was difficult but the situation was better than it was in the ghetto."

Editor's Note: Despite the best intention of the camp director, Schneider's brother, Julek, was killed in a surprise Gestapo raid along with a large number of other workers.
