"After I provided the Veterans Administration with my Regents Examination results, I was approved by the College G.I. Bill. I had been accepted at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate New York as well as the Northrop Aeronautical Institute, which later became a University. I was very impressed with the flying wings designed and built at Northrop Aircraft. With no one to advise me of the pros and cons, I went to Northrop Aeronautical Institute in California."

Editor's Note: Declining to reenlist in the U.S. Army, Eugene Kimling was honorably discharged in 1948. Unemployed for a time, he could not gather school records from Germany sufficient to convince the Veterans Administration that he was a high school graduate eligble for G.I. Bill college benefits. Instead, he passed the New York Regents Examination. 

While enrolled at the Northrop Aeronautical Institute in Inglewood, California, Eugene took pilot lessons and tinkered with cars, hobbies that would remain a part of his life as he traveled across the country working as a consulting engineer, and later, as a film distributor.
