"And eventually [my grandmother] was released from imprisonment but moved to work camps—several camps over time along the Black Sea in, I believe, Turkmenistan, eventually ending up in Spassk . And that was the last camp that I can recall that she mentioned she was in. And then in late 1952, I believe it was—In the middle of 1952 she was released. I believe it was June or July. She was suddenly released without any explanation and returned to Berlin." (Editor's Note: The New York Times gives her release as 1953. )
