Reacting to the End of the War
"I was glad to see the destruction of the city."

"At the end of the war, [my father and his family] were actually still living in what would be considered the Western sector in the U.S. administered part of Berlin. My father’s comment to me—The only comment was that I can recall, after the bombing of Berlin, he looked out, and he said, 'I was glad. I was glad to see the destruction of this city, because the destruction of Berlin represented the destruction of all the evil that had gone on.' That was a comment that he shared with me."
