The Invasion of Southern France

"We went into southern France. Of course that was an easy mission. And we had anti-glider and anti-parachute poles, pine trees that they’d [the Germans] planted in the big field we were going to land in. So we landed the gliders in between the poles. [It] sheared the wings off, which was an advantage to us because it stopped our forward motion, where we could get out of the glider in a hurry. ‘Cause there’s always somebody mad at you on the ground, shooting at you."
