“As I reflect back, we were not allowed to say we are Palestinians. So, in elementary school, and high school, I study more about Israel and Jewish history and Zionist history… For us as children, my first language was Arabic. In the fourth grade, I started to study Hebrew, and in sixth grade, I started to study English… I could not graduate from high school without passing Arabic, Hebrew, and English. So, if I have young people listening to me, I would like to challenge you [and] say, the best way to be a good American or patriotic American [is] to know other languages besides English. Language is culture. Language is power. Every language you add is good for you [and] good for America.”
