“I kept thinking, what kind of cards am I being dealt?”

Story

“Prior to that, I figured it was just an excursion. You know, a piece of cake, more or less. But Kwajalein was scorching hot and smelled awful. We spent quite a while there, and I kept thinking, what kind of cards am I being dealt? We still didn't know our final destination, but later we left Kwajalein for Guam. Guam was much the same as Kwajalein – hot, humid, and crawling with snakes. There were also these tree frogs up in the trees, something I'd never seen before. Thankfully, we only stayed on Guam for a day or two before heading to Tinian. That's where our final destination was.

Factoid

Between 1944 and 1945 (when the first B-29s arrived in the Mariana Islands, October 1944 and the end of war).
