Then before I boarded the ship [in San Francisco], I had a telephone call from my brother that said that he heard from the Red Cross saying that my parents were in good shape. They were okay. So, I wish I didn't volunteer for another three years."


Editor's note: Jimmy Doi re-enlisted after he was discharged from the Army in Europe, because he wanted to travel to Japan to see his parents. They had not spoken for seven years from 1939 to 1946.
