Stupplesteiner installed in 2010, signify the presence of six Simon family members who lived in this spot in Cloppenburg, Germany. Hilde Simon Gernsheimer was present. The stupplesteiner (or Stolperstein) project was started by German artist Gunter Demnig in 1992 as an in situ memorial to people persecuted by Nazi terror, most Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The stones are placed at the last known residence of people displaced by the Nazi regime.
