"The reason for my writing today is your birthday. A birthday in a formally foreign country, and yet it is our momentary home. We as Jews have really no home and we must wander from one land to another and from one part of the earth to another. And my dear mother "Muti," you're celebrating your first birthday without your parents, and we're now in the part of the world that we've escaped from. But you must celebrate your birthday with joy/happiness. And now my dear mom, from my heart I congratulate you and wish you the best for your birthday, and the best for all of your future. May God make that we all would be together with grandpa and grandma in England and later in America. That is my forward-thinking wishes on your birthday. And now dear mother, I will close. Spent the day satisfied and nice. We're all of us whether in Frankfurt or in London or in Margate, we're thinking of you on this day, all of us. Dear love Mommy. With a full birthday kiss, your loving son Herbert."
