I.D. Issued to Survivors of Concentration Camps

This I.D. was issued to Norbert Friedman by the German government after the war and includes his birth date and city as well as the main camps where he was interred during the war.

ID: A filled out form on yellow paper with a photo of a person wearing white in the top left corner. The paper is titled “Bescheinigung,” then reads “Es wird hiermit bescheinigt, daß.” Under this is a section with prompts and answers that reads “Herr Norbert Friedman in Frankfurt/…ain. Geb. am 20.12.22 zu Krakau. I.D. Zeit vom: 1940. Bis: 1945.” There’s another line, then it reads “Ghetto: Krakau und Tarnow und KZ: Pustow, Mielce, Flossenburg und Dachau...” Below this reads “Er… gilt somit als…, rassisch… Verfolgte(r). Diese Bescheinigung verleiht nicht gleiche Rechte wie solche den verschleplen Personen der Vereinten Nationen zustehen, noch gewährt sie Sonder-oder Vorzugsrechte gemäeß den Vorschriften der amerikanischen Militärregierung.” Below this reads “Ministerium für pol. Befreiung für das Land Hessen” followed by a signature. At the bottom of the paper reads “Wiesbaden, den 2.12.48.”
