Excerpt: "Our Jewish friends would always ask us, 'How could she go back to Germany... or why did she go back to Germany?' When she left Germany in 1939 she already decided that she wanted to return. She said that it was important to her that Germany would be a place where Jews and all other people could live.
"Throughout her life Marianne was a perpetual critic of much of the world around her...business, government, Nazis, Communists, desecration of the environment, and nuclear development. She was well characterized fifty years ago by the cousin who sponsored her escape and immigration to England: 'Marianne feels very strongly about everything...mostly against.' The world will miss her commitment to try to better it."
